Located on the ridge of the moraine formed by the Verra Grand Glacier, the Mezzalama Hut is, without any doubt, one of the most scenic in the entire Alps. We’re at the very end of the picturesque Ayas Valley and on the southern side of the Monte Rosa Massif. From here the views of Castor, Pollux and Breithorn (peaks of over 4,000 metres) are simply breathtaking. The hike is challenging due to the significant gradient and altitude, suited for well trained hikers. The Mezzalama Hut was built in 1934 as an overnight base for the mountaineering ascents and still today offers shelter and warm food to its visitors. Reaching the Mezzalama Hut also offers an incredible chance to get closer to the ice of an alpine glacier!
