I’m sure you’ll agree with us in saying that the Matterhorn needs no introductions. With its 4,478 metres and a pyramid-perfect shape, the Mattherhorn is with good reason one of the most beautiful mountains in the entire world and the most photographed peak located on the border between Italy and Switzerland.
The Matterhorn (referred to as “Cervino” in the Italian language) can be approached on the italian side by following the valley that stretches south of it. The view areas along the way are quite many and we are choosing one the best! From the litlle settlement of Buisson we first let a cable car bring us up to the car-free village of Chamois. From here we start hiking along a well-travelled path, passing by Lake Lod and reaching the Cheneil Pass with views over the Matterhorn. We continue descending towards the village of Cheneil, our lunch spot with a great view! We can now retrace our steps back to Chamois and from there down to street level by cable car.
